Volunteers

Freiwillige des Forststeiges

At Saxony Forestry Services, there are many opportunities to work as a volunteer to support the work being done for the conservation and recreational function of our forests, as well as environmental education.

Every year, more than 50 volunteers work over 2,500 hours to contribute to the preservation of Elbe Sandstone Forststeig and its facilities for everyone. Volunteers are therefore active in all aspects of Steig work, from basic maintenance, all the way to larger projects like the repair of stairs and shelters and the maintenance of the trekking huts and bivouac spots along the Forststeig.

Although Steig supervisors are perhaps the most noticeable, many volunteers take part in many other activities, from visitor information all the way to Steig management.

As part of a long-term assignment for the Federal Volunteers Service, a year of volunteer environmental work, a short-term duty as a group, or as a hut warden, volunteers can support the work being done for the Forststeig as well as for the forest and nature.
