Closure of the Forststeig hiking route in the area of Großer Zschirnstein

For safety reasons, sections of the Forststeig hiking route in the area of the Großer Zschirnstein are expected to be closed by July 17. This applies to the Hertelsgrund, the forest work street between Wiesenweg and Zschirnsteinweg and the northern descent. Detours are signposted. The way up and down (ascent and descent) to the Großer Zschirnstein is only possible via the path branching off the Zschirnsteinweg. The Zschirnstein bivouac can be used without restriction. The forests on the Forststeig are currently suffering from the effects of the dry years 2018 and 2019. The spruce bark beetles "Buchdrucker" and "Kupferstecher" infest countless trees. Through the forest work in the restricted areas, the trees infested by the beetles are brought out of the forest in order to limit further spread.
