What's new for the 2020 Forststeig hiking season?

Even if the trekking season 2020 could not start as planned with an action day and the opening of the season with forester hikes on the Forststeig Elbe Sandstone hiking route in April, the trekking experience has been possible almost without restrictions since mid-June. It is important that everyone adheres to the distance-and hygiene rules, then hopefully the season can be used until October 31. What's new this year? There have been some small route changes and two larger sections have been relocated. On the one hand, in the Czech Republic, this is a section from Kristin Hrádek towards Schneeberg, which was previously an asphalt road. Here a completely new and natural route (3.2 km) was found and marked by the Czech colleagues. We are particularly happy about that. Furthermore, a section near Bad Schandau, which was very close to the settlement, was relocated to a great path on the Elbe hillsides to make the trekking experience even more attractive. In the Rotsteinhütte, the sleeping capacity was increased by converting a small room into two sleeping places and at the Spitzstein bivouac, more space has been created for those seeking protection in the shelter hut, which was formerly used as a haystack. The establishment of two new bivouac spots has not yet been completed. These were requested from the regional directorate so that gaps within the route can be closed. Also, the information materials, Forststeig Elbe Sandstone hiking route brochure and leaflet were revised and reprinted, and new partners were found to support the Forststeig hiking route project. The local authority of Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel is now also a community of the Forststeig hiking route and the outdoor sports shop. Mehrprofi GmbH in Chemnitz is a new partner and ticket sales office.
